The Riverland Division of General Practice Inc was formed in 1994 and registered as an incorporated company on May 17th 1994. The Division is located in Berri, which is regarded as the most central of the Riverland towns. There are currently 34 General Practitioners, 7 Rural registrars and 8 PRCC students. The membership is evenly spread throughout the region with one unopposed practice in 3 Riverland towns, Loxton, Renmark and Waikerie, and 2 practices in both Barmera and Berri. There is a hospital in each of these towns. Membership is open to all GP residing and who conduct their principal practice in the Riverland. Membership is determined by the RDGP Management Committee and is ratified as soon as practical following acceptance of an application. The Board of Management is comprised of one delegate (or his/her nominated proxy) from each of the Riverland towns of Barmera, Berri, Loxton, Renmark and Waikerie, from which is elected a Director and Secretary/Treasurer. The management committee meets monthly. A copy of our annual report is available. The Division employs an Executive Officer who oversees the general administration of the Division, a Program Development Manager, 4 Project Officers, 4 MAHS workers, 3 Administration Assistants and 1 Executive Assistant. The Riverland Division of General Practice Inc has as its members, all General Practitioners in the Riverland Region. Associate members of the Division are comprised of locums, registrars and Flinders University students during their stay in the region. The Division has an active GP membership with over 90% of members involved in Divisional activities during 2006. The Division enjoys a cooperative and collaborative relationship with other health service providers in the region and supports GP participation in the planning and management of these services. The Division is active in Medical education through its regional education committee, recruitment and retention of general practitioners through its GP workforce coordinator. Clinically the Division is active in the areas of diabetes, immunisation, obstetrics, mental health, chronic disease initiatives, aged care, quality use of medicines, asthma, trauma and anaesthetics. |
